Round 6 saw the Dirty Thirds take on Therry Penola in the early game at Glenhuntly. Some of the lads were getting up earlier than they had all year, but were inspired by the skippers pre game note "We are playing Therry Penola who I've never heard of but I hate them already". This week also saw the arrival of an Australian coach for the Thirds who was much shorter, a little more round and had a much smaller nose than his predecessor.
The pre game focus was to start well against a side who had a big win the week before. The lads responded with a 6 goal first quarter which saw Wilson and Kingwill prove a real handful for an under pressure Therry back line. The skipper started well in the middle, despite Therry dominating the ruck with a man mountain who had more grey hair than Geoff Reilly. Therry were lucky to manage 2 goals with barely more forward entries than that. The second quarter started with more of the same from the Dirty Thirds, with another Wilson goal and an inspirational mark with the flight of the ball from Josh Rogers. Lawson and Ponniah were giving us plenty of run out of the backline and the skipper was continuing his vintage performance across the middle selling candy to all customers. The main break saw the Fields cruising 35 points clear.
After the break the Dirty Thirds continued to cruise, unfortunately Therry actually lifted their game and snatched the momentum away from the home side. Hogan, Stevo and the skipper battled hard through the middle but some lack of touch and execution across the team provided the visitors with some handy turnover ball. Mollard, Bold & Wood limited the damage but we were easily out scored in the quarter. Bocks game on and busted his gut, but pushed a little too hard and then lost his guts at half forward. The last break saw Lukey demand a huge last quarter from the boys and they certainly responded with a higher intensity effort. Another Wilson goal helped settle the team and although we didn't kick another goal for the game Therry didn't have enough petrol to run us down. So another win see the Dirty Thirds maintain our position in the top 4 with a tough trip west to PEGS nest weekend.
