All our young women and men have been training since the 18th January and building toward the start of the VAFA season on the 10th April. This long awaited Saturday will see our girls unveil the club’s first women’s flag at Glenhuntly as they host Round 1 against a yet to be determined opponent. Meanwhile our men will face off in the “Centenary Game” against Old Melburnians at Elsternwick Park. It has been a long time since we have had the opportunity to watch our sides compete and we look forward to welcoming all our supporters down to watch our first games back in A Grade.
The Women’s program has had some exciting signings, including a number VFLW players aligning with us for 2021. Louise Bibby (2004), a former CGS Boarding House Captain, and Marguerite Purcell (2018), both with the Western Bulldogs have joined the Fields. Premiership Coach Mitch Dupljanin has also added to the depth of his coaching panel with former senior player John Nankervis joining as his assistant and the well credentialed Deborah Konopnicki taking over the reins of our Reserves. ‘
While our men’s teams will be away in Round 1, our senior side will unveil their 2019 Premiership flag at home in Round 2 against 2019 A Grade Premier University Blues. Premiership Coach Simon Williams and his men are well positioned to tackle the challenge of A Grade and are looking forward to the season with excitement. An already strong list has seen the addition of a number of VFL players aligning themselves to the Fields, including former Saint Ed Phillips. However while our list management committee has excelled at retaining our list and strategically adding to it, the club has acknowledged the need to continue to invest in the development of young players coming from an incredibly strong school program. We are excited to announce the appointment of former Collingwood & Western Bulldogs player Tom Davidson as our new senior development coach. Tom has extensive experience in fitness and wellness through his personal training business and we look forward to his insighs in providing our players with support to best prepare themselves for the 2021 season.
We are keen to finally celebrate our centenary season and we will be having our famous luncheons back at Glenhuntly this season and they will begin with the flag unfurling luncheons for Men’s and Women’s over Round 1 & 2. We would love to see the CGFC community back out in force at these events. More details will be on the CGFC website and social media closer to the events in April.
Our membership campaign is about to begin also and we would love as many of the CGFC community to become “Centenary Members” of the fields in season 2021. This special membership will include a complimentary admission to the Centenary Celebration dinner which will be held during the season. Keep an eye out for this campaign on our website and social media also.
