We’re thrilled to announce that engine room superstar and reigning Tootell-Royals Award winner Will Edwards has been named as the CGFC Senior Mens captain for season 2020.
Following his decorated career in the Eastern Football League, Will's return to the Fields last year was nothing short of outstanding.
The powerful inside midfielder starred consistently during season 2019, named in Caulfield's best players 10 times and was duly recognised by the league with selection as vice captain in the Premier B Team Of The Year.
Will was also named best afield for the Big V in the VAFA's win against the Perth FL and then capped off the year by finishing third in the Premier B league best and fairest count before becoming a premiership player and claiming the Tootell-Royals Award for CGFC's Best and Fairest player at the club's end of season presentation night.
Will plays the game the way we want to play and has the best interests of the club and our quest to be continually improving, driving standards on and off the field.
Last year he demonstrated great dedication and buy-in in our premiership year, and over this off season with helping to attract players to the club and retention.
Following Will’s appointment head coach Simon Williams spoke of his excitement, “I look forward to seeing Will lead the club for our Centenary year in 2020 and for years to come, whilst nurturing the young list and leaders coming through.”
CGFC also sends a huge thank you to our former captain Tim Nixon. In 2016 Tim was appointed as CGFC co-captain (alongside former skipper Tom Small) and in 2019 he was named sole captain.
Tim has led the senior playing group magnificently in the past four years and last year he held aloft the 2019 Premier B premiership cup after the Fields defeated Old Scotch by 92 points in the Grand Final.
CGFC head coach Simon Williams had this to say about his premiership-winning skipper, “Tim has guided the club through a tough period being relegated to C and now in Premier grade for 2020. His dedication both on and off the field and his strive for success has dragged the group along. No doubt he has been instrumental through this period leading from the front.”
We congratulate Tim on his outstanding captaincy reign and wish Will all the best as the new skipper of the club.
