As everyone would know, the world has changed and season 2020 hasn’t been quite what we expected!
By now, we would have celebrated the unfurling of 3 Premiership flags and be right in to the mix – but not to be.
So what have we been up to and what’s coming up?
Firstly, we are waiting for further advices from the VAFA as to when or if the season will get underway, and under what conditions. The players are continuing to train in isolation to maintain fitness, but some form of pre-season will be needed to bring the group together and harness all that energy! The players are in continued communication with each other, the Coaches and the Trainers, so the connectivity is still happening even if it is remotely. We all look forward to this virus “going away” at some point, and allowing us to enjoy some normality as we transition back to our jobs, social connection and life in general. I hope all the CGFC community is staying well and looking after yourselves. We miss all being together!
Once we get some idea from the VAFA, who we understand will be meeting in the week commencing 11 May, we will be able to understand what season 2020 may look like and review our social calendar to see what, if any functions we can have this year. Who knows, our Centenary may well be celebrated in 2021!!
We have continued our Centenary Lager campaign with Round 2 last week. Look out for the next round of sales in a few weeks time – by then, if the State of Emergency has been lifted by the Victorian Government, we should be able to access the Clubrooms to retrieve some merchandise. For the players, don’t forget if you want to order a Players bag etc, please place your order as soon as possible to give time for the bag to be individualised.
A big “well done” to Tom Flanagan, Charlie Logan and Seb Gotch for their efforts in getting the CGFC Podcast up and running. If you haven’t had the chance to have a look, you can access the first two episodes via the Website. This is connecting the CGFC community on some current news, and a bit of frivolity – a very good mix. Thanks guys!!
I would also like to thank our Sponsors who have supported our Club over the journey, and continue to do so. Our Members and Player Sponsors who got on board early, have helped our financial position which puts us in a good position for this year and next. And a quick “thank you” to all the players who paid their subs and have left them with us for safekeeping! This is very beneficial for us in meeting our obligations.
I look forward to sharing some more news with you around mid May when we should have some clearer direction on what lies ahead. Let's keep doing the right things so we can all be together again soon.
