As the title suggests, I am beach-bound. The Blog will be missing for about a month, as I lie on the beach or next to the pool, with a pina colada in one hand, a beer in the other, as I work on a tan that matches Terry Wallaces' - except mine will be a tad more natural.

Last blog I promised a more tranquil and reserved journal, but I've decided to scrap that idea. It just doesn't work for me. Words such as nice, complimentary, meaningful, and pleasant are words that don't appear in my vocabulary. And it's not the way football should be played either. I've never seen a nice bunch of guys win a Premiership. There has to be a couple of players who have the 'angries' about them. Essendon had Hardwick and Wallis in 2000, Brisbane had Voss and Leppitsch, Port had Josh Carr, the Swans Barry Hall. At the Grammarians, we have the Chief - he just oozes nastiness.

As I sarcastically lament on our lack of mongrel, a person who does not have a whole heap of mongrel in him, but does exude class is Andrew Slevison (For all those who watch The Chaser, that segway right there would have made Anna Coren proud!). The Sleverage slotted a quiet nine goals last weekend, almost single-handedly keeping Caulfield within striking distance of the undefeated Old Essendon. It wasn't to be, despite it being a gallant effort by the whole side. But, as we all know, honourable losses are about as useful as a goal-umpire with no arms. They just give you nothing.

Anyway, the beach-bound Blog must go pack for his trip. I look forward to reporting back to you about the international coverage of footy in Asia, and if the likes of Slevison, Carboni, Noblett and Foote are household names over there. I will also take a mental note of the beaches, the sun, the serenity. As Daryl Kerrigan says, so much serenity.

xx
