
What a privilege to be at the home of amateur football to experience a magnificent finish to a wonderful season, full of commitment and courage, constantly showcasing a youthful team of exceptional character.
I have lost count of how many times I have observed finals at headquarters over the years but it runs into hundreds; often satisfyingly watching my own club compete and last Saturday, well it was one of those great days, a very special day, a history making day.
Caulfield Grammarians came of age in their modern era, in front of some of the greats of a previous era, before many from even the next era as future Fieldsmen, those still at school, wore the blue and white and became caught up in the fervour of a terrific contest. It was a very healthy gate at Elsternwick Park as north met south and the two clubs had plenty of support on this warm, windy occasion.
