We made our way out to what seems to be the only water restriction exempt area in greater Melbourne where luscious green playing fields are in abundant supply. The Anzac day long weekend provided a pleasant surprise with no school footy taking place & the normally hectic change rooms were eerily calm. An optimistic mix of clubbies stalwarts, mates of mates and under 19's came together before the game with quick introductions between new teammates & our tape supply running low after all duplicate numbers had been modified. With 8 on the bench plus water boys & a handful of supporters (thanks for coming out footie), the size of the crowd rivalled that at the Port vs.. StKilda clash at AAMI stadium over the weekend. A category 3 cyclone was blowing towards the school end and after loosing the toss run, carry & stout defence was the order of the quarter. With the krackour brothers running rings around us in the 1st 5 minutes and it was fortunate that a total eclipse wasn't encountered otherwise catching them would have been all that much harder, sighs of relief were heard from the Caulfield boys after one of them went down with what appeared to be a knee injury. Following a tough 1st quarter in which we conceded more goals than we would have liked the mood was still positive with our turn now coming to take advantage of the gale. Unfortunately inaccurate kicking, a resilient Old Trinity outfit & a Caulfield side that hadn't played a whole lot of footy together all combined as factors that resulted in Trinity winning the battle in quarter 2 & this trend continued in the 2nd half. Some positives & highlights to come out of the game were: - the 4 quarter effort from saundo against a solid opponent (except the last 3 minutes when Dave was forced into the ruck after a long trip to fetch the ball emptied out the big mans tank) - the umpire who seemed to have read the wrong job description prior to taking the field, most of his time was spent on calling the game & special comments rather than blowing his whistle....sometimes amusing, other times frustrating - Jimmy from the unders who showed some real dash off a wing, particularly in the 1st half - Max 'gloves' Price who displayed plenty of courage throwing his comparably light frame into situations that few others in the team have been doing This week we're playing in prime time....the 2pm game out at box hill who are also yet to win a game....a real opportunity to get our season back on track and rebuild some much needed confidence.
